Is Residential Solar Right for You?

Residential economics depend on the roof, local weather, tariff, export compensation, system cost, financing and expected ownership period. Use a site survey and current utility rules. Do not rely on country-wide payback ranges or a generic monthly-bill threshold.

System Sizing for Residential

Sizing approach: (1) Review 12 months of electricity bills to find annual kWh consumption. (2) Divide by specific yield for your location (1000-1500 kWh/kWp typical). (3) Add 20-30% to cover EV charging, heat pump, future load growth. Example: 12,000 kWh/year consumption in 1200 kWh/kWp region = 10 kWp system (minimum), 12-13 kWp optimal. Roof area rule of thumb: 5-6 m2 per kWp, so 10 kWp needs 50-60 m2 unshaded roof area.

Module Selection for Residential

Residential module selection should start with usable roof area, structural and handling limits, fire and electrical rules, shading, inverter limits, appearance and the current warranty document. Do not select a wattage or technology from a generic recommendation. Match the exact module dimensions, mass, ratings, mounting instructions, certificate scope and local approvals to the site design.

String vs Microinverter vs Optimizer

String inverter (1 central unit): lowest cost, good for unshaded simple roofs. Microinverters (1 per module): best for shaded/complex roofs, module-level monitoring, rapid shutdown compliance. DC optimizers (1 per module) + string inverter: hybrid approach, similar benefits to microinverters at lower cost. For most residential, microinverters are preferred due to safety, performance, and ease of maintenance.

Battery Storage for Homes

Battery sizing begins with measured load, required backup circuits and duration, peak power, usable energy, cycling strategy, ambient conditions, grid rules and installation constraints. Household size alone cannot determine capacity or runtime. Match the exact cell and system evidence, protection, transport documents, warranty and service route to the site.
